2027 Honda Passport Trim Levels: Every Difference From RT-L to TrailSport Elite Blackout
The 2027 Honda Passport comes in three trims: RT-L ($45,195), TrailSport ($49,995) and TrailSport Elite ($53,695). Two factory versions round out the lineup: the RT-L Towing adds a Class III hitch for +$700, and a Blackout package on the TrailSport and TrailSport Elite adds +$1,500. Every Passport shares a 280-hp 3.5-liter V6, 10-speed automatic, i-VTM4 all-wheel drive, a 5,000-lb tow rating and the full Honda Sensing suite. Stepping up to the TrailSport ($4,800 more) buys real trail hardware: 9.6 inches of ground clearance, all-terrain tires, skid plates, recovery hooks, TrailWatch cameras and a factory hitch. The TrailSport Elite ($3,700 more) adds comfort: perforated leather, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a 12-speaker Bose system and a hands-free liftgate.
In the Gallatin Valley, the Passport trim question is about snow, gravel and how far up the canyon you go. Every trim has all-wheel drive and Snow mode. The TrailSport adds clearance, all-terrain tires and skid plates for national forest roads.

The Five Passport Matchups Shoppers Ask About
RT-L vs. RT-L Towing
The $700 difference is the factory Class III hitch with harness and hitch panel. Every Passport is rated for 5,000 lbs, but towing takes hitch equipment, and the Towing version arrives with it. If towing to Hyalite Reservoir and Canyon Ferry Lake is part of your summer, it's the simpler route.
RT-L Towing vs. TrailSport
$4,100 apart, and both have a factory hitch. The TrailSport adds clearance, all-terrain tires, skid plates and TrailWatch, plus a moonroof, heated wheel and 115-volt outlets. The RT-L Towing keeps leather, the gray interior option and better highway mileage.
TrailSport vs. TrailSport Elite
The $3,700 step is all comfort: ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, perforated leather, Bose audio, a hands-free liftgate and rain-sensing wipers. Off-road hardware is identical. If you sit in your Passport through a the Gallatin Valley summer, the ventilated seats alone make the case.
TrailSport Blackout vs. TrailSport Elite
$2,200 separates them, and they solve different wants. Blackout is the look; Elite is the comfort. If you want both, the Elite Blackout combines them.
TrailSport Elite vs. Elite Blackout
The last $1,500 is cosmetic: black wheels, badges and skid garnishes on an otherwise identical TrailSport Elite.

How Much Each Passport Step Costs
From RT-L to TrailSport Elite Blackout is $10,000. The biggest single jump, $4,100, is RT-L Towing to TrailSport, where the off-road hardware arrives.

The Trade-Offs of Moving Up a Trim
Moving up a trim isn't purely additive. Here's what changes for the worse, so there are no surprises after you sign.
Moving from RT-L to TrailSport
- Leather. The RT-L's seats are leather-trimmed; the TrailSport's are HondaTex synthetic leather and cloth.
- A gray cabin. The TrailSport comes in black only; the RT-L offers black or gray.
- Mileage: 21 mpg combined drops to 20, and highway goes from 25 to 22 mpg.
- Headroom: 1.4 in. less up front (39.1 vs. 40.5 in.) and 1.1 in. less in back, with passenger volume falling from 119.1 to 115.4 cu ft.
- Departure angle: 25.3° on the TrailSport vs. 27.1° on the RT-L, even though approach angle and clearance improve.
- Height: 74.5 in. vs. 73.1 in., which matters with a roof box or a low garage.
- Tire speed rating: T-rated all-terrains (113T) instead of H-rated all-seasons (110H).
- Weight: 198 lbs more (4,676 vs. 4,478 lbs).
Moving from TrailSport to Elite
- Orange ambient lighting gives way to white, though the steering wheel keeps orange stitching.
- The matte Shark Gray wheels are replaced by Berlina Black machine-face alloys.
- Curb weight rises 29 lbs to 4,705. Nothing functional goes away.
Adding Blackout
- The standard wheel finish. Blackout wheels are black alloys on both TrailSport trims.
- $1,500, for appearance only. Capability and features don't change.

What's New on the 2027 Passport
A taller TrailSport
TrailSport trims ride on a reengineered suspension with 9.6 in. of clearance (the RT-L has 8.3 in.) and improved approach, breakover and departure angles over the 2026 TrailSport.
A new TrailSport face
Bigger fender flares, a darker resculpted lower fascia, a reshaped front skid plate and amber LED hood lights.
More standard TrailSport equipment
TrailWatch and a heated steering wheel, previously TrailSport Elite features, are now standard on the TrailSport.
Blackout gets darker
The Blackout package adds black front and rear fascias to its black wheels and badges.
New paint
Smoke Blue Pearl replaces Obsidian Blue Pearl across the lineup.
Higher prices
MSRP is up $245 on the RT-L, $1,345 on the TrailSport and $1,045 on the TrailSport Elite.
How to Test-Drive a Passport in the Gallatin Valley
Book back-to-back drives and use these to compare trims on roads you actually drive.
- Fold the 60/40 rear seat and load what you actually haul: a cooler, a stroller, a kayak paddle. You get 44 cu ft behind the rear seat.
- If you can, take both trims toward US-191 through Gallatin Canyon. Listen for the difference between the RT-L's all-season tires and the TrailSport's all-terrains.
- Towing? Bring your trailer's plug type. The TrailSport hitch has a 7-pin connector; check whether you'll need an adapter.
- On a hot day, try the TrailSport Elite's ventilated seats against the TrailSport's HondaTex. It's the clearest way to judge that $3,700 step.
- Have us show you TrailWatch and the Multi-View cameras in the lot; they're most useful at tight trailheads and steep driveways.
- Merge onto I-90 or US-191 and feel how the V6 and 10-speed pull. Set adaptive cruise and let it follow traffic.
- Pair your phone and sign into Google built-in before you leave the lot so you're testing your own maps and music.
- Ride in the back of both trims. The TrailSport's moonroof trims rear headroom from 40.7 to 39.6 in.
- Check your garage: the TrailSport is 74.5 in. tall, 1.4 in. taller than the RT-L.
2027 Passport Trims: Frequently Asked
What trims does the 2027 Honda Passport come in?
Three: RT-L, TrailSport and TrailSport Elite. Honda also sells an RT-L Towing with a factory hitch and Blackout versions of both TrailSport trims, for six configurations in all.
How much does the 2027 Honda Passport cost?
MSRP is $45,195 for the RT-L, $45,895 for the RT-L Towing, $49,995 for the TrailSport, $51,495 for the TrailSport Blackout, $53,695 for the TrailSport Elite and $55,195 for the TrailSport Elite Blackout. Add the $1,595 destination charge and $455 for premium paint colors.
Is the Passport TrailSport worth it over the RT-L?
If you'll leave pavement or tow, usually yes. For $4,800 more it adds 9.6 in. of clearance (vs. 8.3 in.), all-terrain tires, skid plates, recovery hooks, TrailWatch, a factory hitch, a moonroof, a heated wheel and 115-volt outlets. You give up real leather, a gray interior option and 1 mpg combined.
What's the difference between the TrailSport and TrailSport Elite?
Comfort. The Elite adds perforated leather, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, Bose audio, second-row climate controls, a hands-free liftgate, rain-sensing wipers and sunshades for $3,700 more. Off-road equipment is the same.
Do I need the RT-L Towing to tow with a Passport?
Not necessarily, but it's the RT-L that comes with a factory Class III hitch and harness ($700 more). The TrailSport and TrailSport Elite include a hitch as standard.
Is the Passport Blackout just cosmetic?
Yes. For $1,500 you get black wheels, black Honda badges and black front and rear skid garnishes; features and capability match the non-Blackout trim.
Is all-wheel drive standard on the 2027 Passport?
Yes. Every 2027 Passport has i-VTM4 all-wheel drive with torque vectoring, Trail Torque Logic and seven drive modes, including Trail, Sand and Snow.

Up to 5,000 lbs on any trim when properly equipped. The RT-L Towing and TrailSport trims come with a Class III hitch from the factory; premium fuel is recommended above 3,500 lbs.

Which Passport trim should I get for driving around the Gallatin Valley?
